Before you start.
- Check where the subscription started. Hooked on Phonics states that website purchases cannot be cancelled in an app store, and app store purchases cannot be cancelled in the Dashboard.
- The App and the Practice Packs are separate subscriptions. Cancelling one leaves the other billing, so check the Subscriptions page for both.
- Cancel before the renewal date. Hooked on Phonics states a renewal charge still applies if you cancel after it appears, even on the same day.
- If you have never logged in to the Dashboard, choose First Time Login or Forgot password? on the login screen to set a password by email.
- If you only want to spend less, Hooked on Phonics lets you keep the App and drop the Practice Packs, keep the Packs and drop the App, or ship Packs less often.

Cancel a website purchase in the Account Dashboard
This is the route for subscriptions bought directly from Hooked on Phonics on the web, including from social media ads and discounted trial offers.
- Go to the Hooked on Phonics Account Dashboard.
- Log in with your subscription email address and website password. Use First Time Login or Forgot password? if you have not set one.
- Select Manage on the subscription you want to cancel, then select Cancel on the next screen.
- Answer the confirmation questions until the cancellation completes.
- Go back to the Subscriptions page and cancel any remaining subscription, such as Practice Packs, if you want to stop entirely.
Hooked on Phonics sends a separate confirmation email for each subscription cancelled, so an App plus Practice Pack cancellation produces two emails.
Cancel an Apple-billed Hooked on Phonics subscription
The iPhone and iPad app offers a 7-day free trial that becomes a monthly subscription charged by Apple. Hooked on Phonics directs cancellations, refunds and billing questions for these to Apple.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Hooked on Phonics.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
Apple advises cancelling a trial at least 24 hours before it ends if you do not want it to renew.
Cancel a Google Play-billed Hooked on Phonics subscription
A subscription started in the Android app is billed by Google Play and can only be cancelled there.
- Open your subscriptions in Google Play on your Android device.
- Select the Hooked on Phonics subscription.
- Tap Cancel subscription.
- Follow the instructions to confirm.
An Amazon Appstore subscription is cancelled in your Amazon account in the same way: through Amazon, not Hooked on Phonics.
What happens next?
- You keep App access until the end of the billing period you paid for. After that, premium features end and only limited free content remains.
- When a Practice Pack subscription is cancelled, packages in the cart are removed within 24 hours, and no packs ship while the subscription is inactive.
- Hooked on Phonics does not delete your account or App progress when you cancel, so restarting picks up where you left off.
- Already-billed charges are not refunded unless an eligible refund period applies. Approved refunds typically take 3 to 5 business days to reach the original payment method.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?
For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.
How do I cancel a Google Play free trial before it renews?
Open your subscriptions in Google Play using the Google Account that started the trial. Select the plan, choose Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation steps before the trial expires. Otherwise, the paid subscription begins automatically under the offer’s terms. Uninstalling the app does not stop renewal. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

Can I pause Hooked on Phonics instead of cancelling?
Yes. In the Dashboard, select Manage on the subscription, then Pause Subscription. Shipments resume automatically when the pause ends unless you extend it.

I cancelled but I am still being charged
Hooked on Phonics lists four common reasons: only part of the subscription was cancelled (the App but not the Practice Packs, or the reverse), you deleted the account in the App without cancelling, you cancelled after the renewal charge had already gone through, or you cancelled in the wrong place. Log in to the Dashboard and check that every subscription there is cancelled.
I deleted my account in the app and was charged again
Hooked on Phonics states that requesting account deletion in the App does not cancel an existing subscription. Log in to the Dashboard and cancel the subscription there, or cancel in the app store if you paid through Apple or Google.
I stopped the payment in PayPal or my wallet
Hooked on Phonics states that cancelling payments through PayPal, Apple Wallet or Google Wallet does not cancel the subscription, and that it will keep trying to charge you. Log in to the Dashboard to cancel it properly.
My trial turned into a charge
For a website trial, Hooked on Phonics states you can request a refund of the price paid at enrollment if you cancel within the 30-day trial period, through its Customer Care Team. For an App Store or Google Play trial, refunds are handled only by that store.
I cannot log in to the Dashboard
Check you are using the email address the subscription was bought with, and use First Time Login or Forgot password? to set a password. If the reset fails, Hooked on Phonics support can issue a manual reset.

How do I cancel my Hooked on Phonics subscription?
For a website purchase, log in to the Account Dashboard, select Manage on the subscription, then Cancel, and answer the confirmation questions. For an app store purchase, cancel in the Subscriptions menu of that store.
Does deleting the Hooked on Phonics app cancel the subscription?
No. Hooked on Phonics states deleting the app does not cancel the subscription or stop recurring charges. Cancel where you bought it.

Will I get a cancellation confirmation?
Yes, by email, one for each subscription cancelled. If it is delayed, check your spam or junk folder and revisit the Dashboard to confirm the status.
