LIFESTYLE & FAMILYMembership cancellation guide

How to cancel Hand & Stone membership.

Hand & Stone's membership terms say you may cancel your membership at any time by contacting the spa where the membership was purchased. Once the spa receives the request, the membership is scheduled for termination, and one final membership payment may be charged on your next regularly scheduled billing date. Use your remaining service credits quickly: if a final payment is charged, credits must be redeemed within 90 days of the cancellation request, or within 60 days if no final payment is charged, at the spa's discretion. Spas are independently owned and operated, so confirm the details with yours.

Before you start.

  • Find the spa where you bought the membership. Hand & Stone's terms direct cancellation to that spa, not to a central office or another location.
  • Expect one more charge. Hand & Stone says one final membership payment may be charged on your next regularly scheduled billing date after the cancellation request.
  • Plan how you will use your credits. Credits must be redeemed within 90 days of the cancellation request if a final payment is charged, or within 60 days if none is charged. Anything left after that window expires, except in California.
  • Consider a freeze if the break is short. Participating spas can freeze a membership for one to three months, at the spa's discretion, and a freeze fee may apply.
  • Keep a record. Ask the spa for written confirmation of the date it received your request, because that date starts the clock on your credits.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Hand & Stone, step by step.

Contact the spa where you bought the membership

This is the route in Hand & Stone's membership terms. Each spa is independently owned and operated, and the spa that sold the membership is the one that schedules its termination.

  1. Contact the Hand & Stone spa where you purchased the membership, by visiting or reaching out to that location directly.
  2. Say clearly that you want to cancel the membership, not freeze it.
  3. Ask the spa to confirm the date it received your request and the date of your next scheduled billing.
  4. Ask whether a final membership payment will be charged, since that decides whether you have 90 or 60 days to use your remaining credits.
  5. Get written or emailed confirmation and book any remaining services before the credit window closes.

Hand & Stone's terms say upon receipt of your cancellation request, your membership will be scheduled for termination. Keep proof of when it was received.

Follow up in writing with the same spa

Useful if you have moved away, cannot reach the spa in person, or want a dated record. It still goes to the spa where the membership was purchased.

  1. Confirm the spa's email or mailing address with the spa itself.
  2. Write a short request to cancel your membership with your full name, the phone number and email on the account, and the spa location.
  3. Send it in a way that leaves a record, such as an email you keep or tracked mail.
  4. Keep a copy and any reply.
  5. Check your statement on the next billing date and raise any unexpected charge with the spa, using your dated request.

This is a way to document the request, not a separate Hand & Stone rule. The terms only require that you contact the spa where the membership was purchased.

What happens next?

  • One final membership payment may be charged on your next regularly scheduled billing date.
  • Credits must be redeemed within 90 days of the cancellation request if a final payment is charged, or within 60 days if no final payment is charged, at the discretion of the spa. Unused credits expire after that and have no further value.
  • In California, Hand & Stone says credits do not expire but may be applied toward services at the spa's then-current non-member pricing.
  • If a membership is cancelled because of something at the spa, such as a closure, Hand & Stone says no final payment is collected and the 60 day window applies.
  • Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable, and appointments still need 24 hours' notice to cancel or a fee of 50% of the service cost applies.
  • Deleting the Hand and Stone app does not cancel the membership. The app books appointments and shows credits; the membership sits with your spa.

Pausing or freezing Hand & Stone.

Can I freeze my Hand & Stone membership?

At participating spas, yes, for one to three months, up to twice in a 12 month period, at the spa's discretion. A freeze fee may apply, and during a freeze you can still redeem accumulated services but not other member benefits.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I cancelled and was still charged one more time

Hand & Stone's terms say one final membership payment may be charged on your next regularly scheduled billing date after you cancel. That charge is usually expected. The upside is the longer redemption window: with a final payment charged, you have 90 days from the cancellation request to use your credits rather than 60.

Another Hand & Stone spa will not cancel my membership

Hand & Stone's terms direct cancellation to the spa where the membership was purchased, and each spa is independently owned and operated. Contact the original spa directly, and if you cannot visit, follow up in writing so you have a dated record of the request.

My credits disappeared after I cancelled

Credits must be used within 90 days of the cancellation request if a final payment was charged, or 60 days if not, and Hand & Stone says unused credits remaining after the applicable redemption period will expire and have no further value. California is the exception, where credits do not expire but are applied at non-member pricing.

The spa refused my freeze request

Hand & Stone says freezing is completely at the discretion of each individual spa, is offered at participating locations, and requires at least one payment before you are eligible. It is also limited to two freezes in a 12 month period, up to 3 months each, with 30 days between unfreezing and freezing again. If a freeze is not available, cancelling is the alternative.
