HEALTH & FITNESSMembership cancellation guide

How to cancel Gold's Gym membership.

Start at the Gold's Gym Cancellation Request page and select your gym location. Gold's Gym says each location manages cancellations individually, so some gyms send you to a specific link provided by the gym owner, while others take the request on that page with your name, barcode, email, phone, reason and the services you want to cancel. What happens next, the notice period and any fees come from your home gym and your membership agreement. Several Gold's Gym clubs describe a 30-day notice on month-to-month plans that can include a final billing.

Before you start.

  • Find your barcode or agreement number. The Gold's Gym cancellation request form asks for your barcode, and some clubs ask for your membership agreement number instead.
  • Identify your home gym, the location that signed you up. Gold's Gym says each location manages cancellations individually, so the request has to reach that gym.
  • Read your membership agreement for the notice period. One Gold's Gym club's general policy describes month-to-month plans as cancellable with a 30-day notice that may include one final billing, and bi-weekly plans with a 30-day notice that may include two final billings.
  • Check whether you are still in an initial term. The same club says installment plans cannot be cancelled during the initial term except for a qualifying move or permanent disability, with an early termination fee.
  • Clear any past-due balance first. At least one Gold's Gym agreement says a termination request cannot be completed until past-due balances are paid in full, and accounts on freeze cannot be terminated until unfrozen.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Gold's Gym, step by step.

Cancel online

This is Gold's Gym's own cancellation page. It routes the request by location because, in Gold's Gym's words, each location manages cancellations individually.

  1. Open the Gold's Gym Cancellation Request page and select your gym location.
  2. If the page shows a specific link provided by your gym owner, use that link. It takes you to that gym's own cancellation process.
  3. Otherwise, fill in the form: first name, last name, barcode, email address and primary phone, then choose a reason for cancellation and which services you would like to cancel.
  4. Select SEND CANCELLATION REQUEST.
  5. Keep a screenshot of the submitted request and watch for your gym to confirm the cancellation and its effective date.

A request is not the same as a confirmed cancellation. Your home gym processes it under your agreement, including any notice period.

Cancel at your club

Because each location handles its own cancellations, your home gym can always tell you what it accepts. Some Gold's Gym agreements require their own termination form, which the gym provides.

  1. Find your home gym through the Gold's Gym locator and visit during staffed hours.
  2. Ask to cancel the membership and ask which form your agreement requires.
  3. Complete the form and ask when your final billing will be.
  4. Get a dated copy or written confirmation before you leave.

Gold's Gym's Smyrna, Tennessee agreement, for example, says termination must be done on the Gold's Gym termination form, that the forms are available at the gym or by email, and that the final 30 days of dues are due on cancellation. Your own agreement may differ.

Cancel by mail

Some Gold's Gym agreements describe written notice by registered mail. The Smyrna, Tennessee agreement, for example, quotes a state rule that lets a member end the continuing month-to-month portion after the original term by giving thirty days' written notice by registered mail.

  1. Check your agreement for a mailing address and the notice it requires.
  2. Write a signed letter saying you are cancelling, with your full name, barcode or agreement number and home gym.
  3. Send it by registered or certified mail to the address in your agreement, and keep the receipt and a copy.
  4. Count the notice period from when the gym receives it, and watch for the final billing.

Use mail only if your agreement allows it. Each Gold's Gym location manages cancellations individually.

What happens next?

  • Expect a final billing in many cases. Gold's Gym clubs that publish a general policy describe a 30-day notice that may include one final billing on monthly plans and two on bi-weekly plans.
  • Kids Club and other add-ons can need their own request. One Gold's Gym club handles Kids Club cancellations by a separate email with a 30-day notice.
  • Keep the confirmation from your home gym, not only the form submission, and check your statement after the final billing date.
  • Removing the Gold's Gym app does not cancel anything. The agreement sits with your home gym.

Pausing or freezing Gold's Gym.

Can I freeze my Gold's Gym membership instead of cancelling?

Freeze rules are set by your home gym and agreement. Gold's Gym's Smyrna agreement, for example, says a member in good standing can change, freeze or terminate after completing the initial term, and that the forms for freezes are available at the gym. Note that the same agreement says a frozen account cannot be terminated until it is unfrozen.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I submitted the form but nobody confirmed my cancellation

The Gold's Gym Cancellation Request page sends your request to a gym that manages cancellations individually, so the confirmation comes from that gym. If nothing arrives, contact your home gym directly with the date you submitted, and ask it to confirm the cancellation and the final billing date in writing.

My gym says it cannot process my online request

Some Gold's Gym portals only accept requests from members who joined specific locations. The Pacific Northwest clubs, for example, say online requests are only processed for their own members and that members of other Gold's Gym locations should contact their home gym. Use your own gym's process instead.

I was told I cannot cancel during my initial term

Installment plans can be locked for an initial term. One Gold's Gym club says installment plans cannot be cancelled during the initial term unless you prove a move of more than 25 miles from the club or a permanent disability, and then an early termination fee applies. Check your own agreement for its exact terms.

I cancelled and still got charged

Check the notice period. Several Gold's Gym clubs describe a 30-day notice that may include one or two final billings, so a charge after your request can be expected. If the charge falls after the notice period, take your dated request or confirmation to your home gym.

My membership is frozen and the cancellation will not go through

At least one Gold's Gym agreement says accounts on freeze cannot be terminated until unfrozen and any remaining dues owed are paid. Ask your home gym to unfreeze the account and process the cancellation together, and confirm what you will be billed.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

Can I cancel my Gold's Gym membership online?

You can send a request online through the Gold's Gym Cancellation Request page, and some gyms also accept requests through their member portal. Gold's Gym says each location manages cancellations individually, so your home gym completes it. For a general checklist that applies to any gym, see /how-to-cancel-a-membership.

Can I cancel Gold's Gym in the member portal?

Only where your gym uses it. Gold's Gym's Pacific Northwest clubs, for example, take requests at myiclubonline.com: sign in or Register, select the My Agreement Info tab, click Request Cancel, fill out the form and click Submit Cancel Request, and a summary is sent to your email. Those clubs say online requests are only processed for members who joined their listed locations.

How much notice does Gold's Gym need?

It depends on your gym and agreement. Gold's Gym clubs that publish a general policy describe a 30-day notice for month-to-month plans that may include a final billing.

Can I transfer my Gold's Gym membership to someone else?

Not usually without the gym's approval. One Gold's Gym agreement says it cannot be assigned or transferred by the member without the gym's prior written consent.

Can I cancel at a different Gold's Gym location?

Usually not. Gold's Gym says each location manages cancellations individually, so the request has to go to the gym that holds your agreement.
