In this guide
Before you start.
- Find your next billing date and count back 5 business days. City Sports Club says notice postmarked at least 5 business days before it should mean no further billings.
- Check whether you are still inside an initial term. City Sports Club says that for agreements with an initial term of three months or more, a cancellation made during the term takes effect when the term ends, and ending it before then costs a termination fee.
- Look for a prepaid last month. If you paid last month's dues at enrollment, City Sports Club applies them to the month after your final recurring payment, and the membership expires at the end of that month.
- Decide between cancelling and freezing. City Sports Club offers a freeze for month-to-month members at $10 a month, which keeps the membership without the full dues.
- Keep proof. For mail, City Sports Club recommends registered or certified mail and keeping a record for your files.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel City Sports Club, step by step.
Cancel in your City Sports Club online account
City Sports Club lists your online account as one of the three ways to cancel. It is the fastest route if your account shows the option.
- Sign in to My City Sports Club on citysportsfitness.com.
- Look in the account menu for the cancellation option for your membership.
- Complete the request through to a confirmation screen.
- Save or screenshot the confirmation with its date.
- Check that the cancellation lands at least 5 business days before your next billing date.
City Sports Club also says your agreement may provide other methods, and that depending on your state of enrollment you may be able to cancel by email. Your agreement is the document that confirms which apply to you.
Cancel in person at a club
City Sports Club accepts cancellation in person at a club and directs members to the front desk. This route gives you an answer on the spot about your term and your last charge.
- Go to a City Sports Club location during staffed hours and ask at the front desk to cancel your membership.
- Ask whether your agreement has an initial term that has not ended yet, and whether a termination fee applies.
- Ask what date the cancellation takes effect and whether any billing is still scheduled.
- Ask for written or emailed confirmation of the cancellation.
- Keep the confirmation with the date and the name of the staff member.
If you are relocating, City Sports Club suggests checking its Locations page first, since a club near your new address may make cancelling unnecessary.
Cancel by mailing written notice
Use this when you cannot get to a club or want a dated paper trail. City Sports Club names mailed written notice as an accepted cancellation method and gives the address.
- Write a short letter stating that you are cancelling your City Sports Club membership.
- Include your full name, the address and email on the account, and your membership barcode or number if you have it.
- Mail it to P.O. Box 54170, Irvine, CA 92619.
- Use registered or certified mail, as City Sports Club recommends, so the postmark and delivery are recorded.
- Keep a copy of the letter and the mailing receipt.
The postmark is what counts. City Sports Club says notice postmarked at least 5 business days before your next billing date should result in no further billings, and that if one more billing goes through because of late notice, it will refund it.
What happens next?
- You may still use the club for any prepaid time. City Sports Club says the membership expires at the end of the prepaid last month, if you paid one at enrollment.
- A cancellation postmarked inside the 5 business day window can be followed by one more billing. City Sports Club says it will refund that additional billing.
- If you are within an initial term of three months or more, the cancellation takes effect when the term ends unless you pay the termination fee to end it sooner.
- Paid-in-full agreements follow their own rules. City Sports Club asks those members to visit their local club or contact it.
- Deleting the City Sports app does nothing to the membership. The app handles check-ins and bookings, not the agreement.
Pausing or freezing City Sports Club.
Can I freeze my City Sports Club membership instead?
Yes. City Sports Club lets monthly dues members freeze for $10 a month for an indefinite time, paid-in-full members for up to 6 months for $35, and bi-weekly members for $5 per bi-weekly billing. Weekly dues members cannot freeze. You freeze by logging in and choosing Freeze in the left side menu.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
I cancelled and was charged one more time
Compare the postmark or cancellation date with your billing date. City Sports Club says notice postmarked within 5 business days of the billing date may still be billed once more, and that it will refund that additional billing. Contact the club or City Sports Club with your dated proof and ask for that refund.
The club says my cancellation only takes effect months from now
That happens when your agreement has an initial term of three months or more and you are still inside it. City Sports Club says the cancellation then becomes effective when the initial term ends, and that cancelling before the end of the term means a termination fee. Ask the club for both figures in writing so you can choose.
I froze my membership and I am still being charged
A freeze is not a cancellation. City Sports Club charges month-to-month members $10 a month while frozen, and bi-weekly members $5 per bi-weekly billing. If your next billing date was within 10 days when you froze, the freeze only takes effect from the following billing. Cancel instead if you are not coming back.
I cannot find a cancel option in my online account
Your agreement decides which methods apply, and City Sports Club lists the online account as only one of them. If you cannot see it, use the front desk at any club or mail written notice to P.O. Box 54170, Irvine, CA 92619 by registered or certified mail, at least 5 business days before your billing date.

GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
Can I cancel my City Sports Club membership online?
City Sports Club lists your online account as one of the ways to cancel, alongside mailing written notice and going to the front desk of a club. Your agreement may also provide other methods, such as email in some states.
How much notice does City Sports Club need?
For mailed notice, City Sports Club says a cancellation postmarked at least 5 business days before your next billing date should result in no further billings. Inside that window you may be billed once more, and it says it will refund that billing.
Is there a fee to cancel City Sports Club?
Not for a month-to-month membership. City Sports Club says a termination fee applies only if your agreement has an initial term of three months or more and you want to end it before that term is over.
Can I still use the gym after I cancel?
Yes, for any prepaid time. City Sports Club says you may use the club for prepaid time, such as a last month's dues paid at enrollment, and the membership expires at the end of that month.
Does deleting the City Sports app cancel my membership?
No. The app is for check-ins, classes and bookings. The membership continues until you cancel it through one of City Sports Club's cancellation methods.
