HEALTH & FITNESSMembership cancellation guide

How to cancel HOTWORX membership.

Cancel with your home studio. HOTWORX says each of its locations is independently owned and operated, and every studio publishes its own membership agreement. The HOTWORX agreements we reviewed say that after the Initial Term you may cancel at any time without a fee, in advance of the next billing cycle, and that your signature, your authorized representative's signature or similar authentication is required. Cancelling during the Initial Term carries an early cancellation fee in those agreements, and any outstanding balance must be paid at the time of cancellation. Read your own studio's agreement, because notice rules differ by state.

Before you start.

  • Find your studio's agreement. HOTWORX studios publish their Membership Terms and Conditions, and each studio's version can differ by state. That document sets your notice rule and fees.
  • Check whether you are still in the Initial Term. In the HOTWORX agreements we reviewed, cancelling before the Initial Term ends makes you liable for a ninety-nine dollar early cancellation fee, and access stops once the early cancellation is processed.
  • Plan to sign or authenticate the request. Those agreements say a signature, an authorized representative's signature or similar authentication is required for cancellation.
  • Pay any outstanding balance. The agreements say outstanding balances must be paid in full at the time of cancellation.
  • Time it before your billing date. After the Initial Term, the agreements say you can cancel without a fee in advance of the next billing cycle to avoid the following month's dues.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel HOTWORX, step by step.

Cancel at your studio

HOTWORX says its locations are independently owned and operated and that they should hear from you directly. Your home studio holds your agreement and processes the cancellation.

  1. Find your home studio's contact details on the HOTWORX Contact Us page, which lists each studio and its manager email.
  2. Tell the studio in writing that you want to cancel your membership, and ask how it wants you to sign or authenticate the request.
  3. Ask whether you are still in the Initial Term and whether any balance or early cancellation fee is due.
  4. Complete the cancellation in the way your studio requires, for example signing in person during staffed hours.
  5. Keep the studio's written confirmation, including the date your access and billing end.

Your studio's agreement decides the method. Some versions are stricter than others, so read the cancellation clauses in yours before you rely on an email.

Cancel by mail

Some HOTWORX agreements name mail for cancelling. The short right-to-cancel window after signing is cancelled by mail or hand delivery in the versions we reviewed, and one Tennessee agreement requires thirty days' written notice by registered mail to end the continuing month-to-month obligation.

  1. Find the cancellation clauses and the studio address in your own agreement.
  2. Within the right-to-cancel window after signing, which published versions set at three or seven business days depending on the state, send your notice by the method the clause names.
  3. After that, follow your agreement's notice clause, for example thirty days' written notice by registered mail where your agreement requires it.
  4. Use registered or certified mail with a return receipt, and keep a copy of the letter and the receipt.
  5. If you hand deliver a notice instead, get a signed statement from the studio acknowledging it, as one agreement advises.

Each studio's agreement has its own address and wording. Do not use another studio's address.

What happens next?

  • Services you have already paid for stay usable to the end of the billing calendar month, according to the HOTWORX agreements we reviewed.
  • An early cancellation during the Initial Term ends studio access and membership benefits once it is processed.
  • Discounts tied to your agreement are forfeited on cancellation, and those agreements say enrollment fees apply if you join a HOTWORX studio again.
  • Keep the studio's confirmation and watch the next billing date in case a charge still appears.

Pausing or freezing HOTWORX.

Can I freeze my HOTWORX membership instead of cancelling?

In the HOTWORX agreements we reviewed, you request a freeze in person at your Home Studio, freezes are granted in calendar month increments up to three months, and a nine-dollar monthly freeze fee is billed. Frozen months do not count toward your Initial Term.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I was charged a $99 fee when I cancelled

In the HOTWORX agreements we reviewed, cancelling before the end of the Initial Term makes the member liable for a ninety-nine dollar early cancellation fee. After the Initial Term, those agreements allow cancellation without a fee. Check your agreement for the length of your Initial Term.

My studio says an email is not enough

HOTWORX agreements say your signature, your authorized representative's signature or similar authentication is required for cancellation. Ask the studio exactly what it accepts and complete that step, and keep a copy of your email as proof of when you first asked.

I cancelled but the next month's dues were taken

After the Initial Term, the agreements say you must cancel in advance of the next billing cycle to avoid the following month's dues. Some studios also require longer written notice by registered mail. Compare the date your cancellation was completed with the clause in your own agreement before disputing the charge.

Another HOTWORX studio will not cancel my membership

Your agreement is with your Home Studio. HOTWORX says its locations are independently owned and operated, so another studio generally cannot end your agreement. Contact your Home Studio through the HOTWORX Contact Us page.

My studio closed or moved

At least one published HOTWORX agreement gives a right to cancel without penalty, with a pro rata refund, if the Home Studio moves more than five miles from where you signed, and a right to cancel if the Home Studio's facilities are permanently closed. Check whether your own agreement has the same clauses and write to the studio citing them.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

Can I cancel my HOTWORX membership online?

HOTWORX does not publish one national online cancellation button. Studios are independently owned, and the agreements we reviewed require your signature or similar authentication to cancel. Ask your home studio which methods it accepts. For a general checklist that applies to any gym, see /how-to-cancel-a-membership.

Can I transfer my HOTWORX membership?

Not to another person. The agreements say membership dues, enrollment fees, packages and sessions are non-refundable and not transferable. Changing your plan level is done in person at your Home Studio.

Does my HOTWORX membership renew automatically?

Yes. The HOTWORX agreements we reviewed say that after the Initial Term's six billing cycles the agreement renews automatically on a month-to-month basis until you cancel.

Does deleting the HOTWORX app cancel my membership?

No. The app does not hold your agreement. Cancellation goes through your Home Studio.
