STREAMINGSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Dropout subscription.

Sign in at watch.dropout.tv in a web browser, open your account settings and use the cancellation option in the subscription section. That route works only if Dropout bills you. Dropout also sells subscriptions inside its iOS and Android apps, and a subscription bought that way belongs to Apple or Google and lives in that store's list instead. Check which term you are on before you cancel: the App Store listing prices Dropout Monthly at $6.99 and Annual at $69.99, and the annual plan is paid a year up front.

Before you start.

  • Read the merchant name on your statement first. Apple or Google on the charge means the subscription belongs to that store and watch.dropout.tv cannot end it.
  • Check which term you hold. The Dropout App Store listing shows Monthly at $6.99 and Annual at $69.99, so an annual subscriber cancelling mid-year is stopping a renewal that is months away.
  • The annual plan is paid up front. Cancelling stops the next renewal rather than returning the unused months, which is the most common source of disappointment on a yearly Dropout plan.
  • Note the renewal date. A cancellation made on the renewal date itself can land after the payment has processed.
  • Dropout is a small independent service rather than a company with a partner network, so there is no cable route, no Prime Video channel and no carrier bundle to check. The biller is Dropout, Apple or Google.
  • If you are cancelling because a show has ended rather than because of the cost, check the release schedule first, since a monthly plan can be restarted cheaply when something you want returns.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Dropout, step by step.

Cancel a Dropout subscription billed by Dropout

This is the route for anyone who subscribed on the Dropout website and pays Dropout directly. Use a web browser rather than the app, because the mobile apps route you to whichever store sold the plan.

  1. Sign in at watch.dropout.tv in a web browser.
  2. Open your account settings and find the subscription or billing section.
  3. Check which company is named as the biller before looking for a cancel option.
  4. If Dropout bills you, use the cancellation option shown there and work through every confirmation screen.
  5. Keep the confirmation and the end date it gives you.

If the account page offers no cancellation control, Apple or Google holds the plan. That is the expected behaviour rather than a fault.

Cancel a Dropout subscription billed by Apple

Dropout sells subscriptions inside its iOS app, which its App Store listing confirms, so a signup made on an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV belongs to Apple.

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Select the Dropout subscription. The name shown tells you the term, either Monthly or Annual.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
  5. On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name, then open Subscriptions from your account settings.

If Dropout is not in the list, check every Apple ID in the household. A subscription is only visible on the Apple ID that bought it.

Cancel a Dropout subscription billed by Google Play

Dropout's Google Play listing confirms in-app purchases from $4.99 to $69.99, so an Android signup bills through Google.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app, or go to play.google.com on a computer.
  2. Open Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  3. Select the Dropout subscription.
  4. Select Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.

Uninstalling the app never cancels a Google Play subscription. If Dropout is missing from the list, the Google account signed in is not the one paying.

Switch from annual to monthly instead of cancelling

Worth considering if the annual commitment is the problem rather than the service. Dropout releases shows in seasons, so a monthly plan restarted when something returns can cost less over a year than an annual one held throughout.

  1. Check which term your charge matches: $6.99 for Monthly or $69.99 for Annual on the App Store listing.
  2. Sign in to your account on whichever platform bills you.
  3. Look for a plan change option rather than a cancellation, which keeps your account and watch history.
  4. If no plan change is offered, let the annual term run to its end date and resubscribe monthly rather than cancelling mid-year, since the unused portion is not returned either way.

What happens next?

  • Access normally runs to the end of the term you have already paid for, which on the $69.99 annual plan can be many months away.
  • The annual plan is paid up front, so cancelling stops the next renewal rather than returning the unused portion.
  • Cancelling does not delete your Dropout account, your watchlist or your viewing history. They stay if you come back.
  • Downloads in the Dropout app stop playing when the subscription ends, even though the files stay on the device.
  • Dropout has no free tier to fall back to, so access to the library ends completely when the paid term runs out.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

There is no cancel option in my Dropout account

That means Dropout is not the biller. Dropout sells subscriptions through Apple and Google in-app, and watch.dropout.tv can only cancel plans Dropout collects the money for. Read the merchant name on your statement: an Apple or Google charge is cancelled in that store's subscription list.

I cancelled the annual plan and did not get money back

The annual subscription is priced at $69.99 and paid a year up front. Cancelling an annual plan stops it renewing rather than refunding the remainder, so access continues to the end of the year you bought. If you were going to lose the money either way, letting the term run out costs nothing extra.

Dropout is not in my Apple or Google subscriptions list

Either you are signed in with a different Apple ID or Google account than the one that paid, which is the usual cause, or the subscription is a direct Dropout one and belongs on watch.dropout.tv instead. Check every account in the household before concluding it has vanished.

I am paying more on my phone than the website price

An in-app subscription bought through Apple or Google is a separate subscription from one bought on the website, and the prices do not have to match. If the website is cheaper, cancelling the store subscription and signing up on the web is a switch rather than a cancellation, so check both prices and the renewal dates before you move.

I cancelled but the charge keeps coming

Compare the merchant name on the surviving charge against what you cancelled. Holding a direct Dropout subscription and a store one at the same time is the usual explanation, and it happens when someone signs up again in the app without cancelling the original.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel Dropout?

Sign in at watch.dropout.tv in a browser and use the cancellation option in your subscription settings, if Dropout bills you. If Apple or Google bills you, cancel it in that store's subscription list instead.

What does Dropout cost?

Its App Store listing shows Monthly at $6.99 and Annual at $69.99. Its Google Play listing shows in-app purchases from $4.99 to $69.99 per item.

Do I keep watching Dropout after I cancel?

Until the end of the term you already paid for, yes. Cancelling stops the next renewal rather than cutting off access immediately, which on the annual plan can leave months of access.

Does cancelling delete my Dropout account?

No. Cancelling stops the billing and eventually the access. The account, its watchlist and its history remain, and they come back if you resubscribe.
