In this guide
Before you start.
- Establish who charges you by checking the merchant name on your card or bank statement. A charge from Apple or Google means the store holds the subscription, and the Gaia website cannot cancel it.
- Know which plan you are on. Gaia's App Store listing names a $15.99 monthly plan and a $139.99 annual plan, both with a 7-day free trial, and a Gaia+ streaming plan at $299 annually without a free trial. It notes prices may vary by region.
- Note the renewal deadline if Apple bills you. Gaia's listing states the subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and that the account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
- If you are on the 7-day free trial, count from the sign-up date and cancel before it ends, since the plan converts to the paid price at that point.
- Expect the current term to run out rather than stop. Gaia's listing states that no cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during the active subscription period.
- If you took the $299 Gaia+ annual plan, note there is no free trial attached to it in Gaia's own description, so the first charge is immediate.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel Gaia, step by step.
Cancel a subscription Apple bills
Gaia's own App Store listing states that payments go through your iTunes account and that auto-renewal is turned off in your iTunes Account Settings, which makes this the route for anyone who subscribed inside the app.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select the Gaia subscription.
- Tap Cancel Subscription, and confirm if prompted.
Gaia states that the subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, so leaving it to the renewal day is too late.
Cancel a subscription bought on gaia.com
Use this when Gaia charges your card directly rather than a store. The controls sit in your account rather than in the viewing app.
- Sign in at gaia.com with the email address that holds the subscription.
- Open your account settings from the account menu.
- Look for the subscription or membership section, which is where the plan and its renewal date are shown.
- Use the cancellation option there and follow the prompts to the end.
- Check afterwards that the account shows an end date rather than an upcoming renewal date.
If the account area does not offer a cancellation, contact Gaia support and ask for the subscription to be cancelled, keeping the written reply and the date.
Cancel a subscription Google Play bills
Gaia is also sold in the Play Store, and a subscription bought in the Android app is held by Google rather than by Gaia.
- Open the Google Play Store app, or go to play.google.com.
- Tap or click your profile icon, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select the Gaia subscription.
- Tap or click Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
Cancel a subscription Roku or Amazon bills
Gaia apps exist on streaming devices too, and a subscription bought on one of those is cancelled in that account.
- Check the merchant name on your statement to confirm which store bills you.
- If it reads Roku, sign in at my.roku.com, open your subscriptions and turn off auto-renew for Gaia.
- If it reads Amazon, cancel it in your Amazon subscriptions list.
- Confirm the entry shows an end date rather than a renewal date.
What happens next?
- Access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for. Gaia states that no cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during the active subscription period, which is another way of saying the term runs out rather than stopping.
- Cancelling turns off the renewal, so no further charge is made after the current period ends.
- Your Gaia account itself is not deleted by cancelling, and the sign-in continues to work.
- A subscription cancelled in a store does not disappear from the store list immediately: it usually shows an expiry date until the paid period ends.
- If you subscribed with a free trial and cancel during it, you keep access for the remainder of the trial in the usual store behaviour, but the plan does not convert to paid.
Cancelling a Gaia free trial.
How long is the Gaia free trial?
Gaia's App Store listing states a 7-day free trial with its $15.99 monthly plan and its $139.99 annual plan, and that the $299 annual Gaia+ streaming plan has no free trial. Prices may vary by region.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
There is no cancel button anywhere in the Gaia app
There is not meant to be one if Apple bills you. Gaia's own App Store listing states that subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renewal turned off by going to the user's iTunes Account Settings after purchase, and that cancellations happen by disabling auto-renewal. The control lives in your device's Settings app under Subscriptions, not inside Gaia.
I cancelled but was charged the next day
For an Apple-billed subscription the deadline is earlier than the renewal. Gaia states the subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and that the account is charged within 24 hours prior to the end of that period. A cancellation made on the renewal day falls inside that window, so the charge has already been initiated.
I cancelled and lost access immediately, or expected to and did not
Gaia's terms describe the second outcome as the intended one: no cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during the active subscription period, so cancelling stops the renewal while the paid term continues. If access ended sooner than that, it is worth contacting support, because the published behaviour is that you keep the period you paid for.
Gaia is not in my Apple or Google subscriptions list
Then that store does not bill it. Either you subscribed on gaia.com, in which case cancel in your Gaia account settings, or the subscription belongs to a different Apple ID or Google account, perhaps a family member's. Check the merchant name and the last four digits on the statement to identify which account to look in.
I was charged $299 rather than the price I expected
That points to the Gaia+ plan rather than the standard one. Gaia's App Store listing describes a $15.99 monthly plan and a $139.99 annual plan, both with a 7-day free trial, and separately a Gaia+ streaming plan at $299 annually without a free trial. Because Gaia+ carries no trial, the charge lands at sign-up rather than a week later, which is why it surprises people. Prices may vary by region.
Still not cancelled?Common reasons a subscription will not cancel How to cancel an app subscription
GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
How do I cancel Gaia?
If Apple bills you, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select Gaia and tap Cancel Subscription. If you subscribed on gaia.com, cancel in your Gaia account settings. If Google, Roku or Amazon bills you, cancel in that store's subscription list.
Does cancelling Gaia end my access straight away?
No. Gaia states that no cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during the active subscription period, so access continues until the end of the term you have paid for and the renewal is what stops.
When do I have to cancel to avoid the next charge?
Gaia states that auto-renew has to be turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and that the account is charged within 24 hours prior to the end of that period. Cancelling a day or more ahead is the safe margin.
