In this guide
Before you start.
- Read the merchant name on your statement before you start. Apple, Google, Roku or Amazon on the charge means the subscription belongs to them and criterionchannel.com cannot end it.
- Check which term you hold. The Criterion Channel App Store listing shows the Criterion Channel Subscription at $10.99 and at $99.99, which correspond to the monthly and annual plans.
- The annual plan is paid up front for a year. Cancelling stops the next renewal rather than returning the unused months, so the timing matters far more than on a monthly plan.
- Note the renewal date. A cancellation made on the renewal date can land after the payment has processed.
- The Criterion Channel is separate from Criterion's disc shop at criterion.com. A disc order is not a subscription, and cancelling the Channel does nothing to an order.
- If the Channel has never worked in the Criterion Channel app itself, you probably hold a channel subscription inside another service.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel The Criterion Channel, step by step.
Cancel a Criterion Channel subscription billed by Criterion
This is the route for anyone who subscribed at criterionchannel.com and pays Criterion directly. Use a web browser rather than the app, because the mobile apps send you to whichever store sold the plan.
- Sign in at criterionchannel.com in a web browser.
- Open your account settings and find the subscription or billing section.
- Check which company is named as the biller before looking for a cancel option.
- If Criterion bills you, use the cancellation option shown there and work through every confirmation screen.
- Keep the confirmation and the end date it gives you.
If the account page offers no cancellation control, a store holds the plan. That is the expected behaviour rather than a fault.
Cancel a Criterion Channel subscription billed by Apple
The Criterion Channel sells subscriptions inside its iOS app, which its App Store listing confirms, so a signup made on an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV belongs to Apple.
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select the Criterion Channel subscription. The price shown tells you whether you are on the monthly or the annual plan.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
- On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name, then open Subscriptions from your account settings.
If the Criterion Channel is not in the list, check every Apple ID in the household. A subscription is only visible on the Apple ID that bought it.
Cancel a Criterion Channel subscription billed by Google Play
The Criterion Channel's Google Play listing confirms in-app purchases from $10.99 to $99.99, so an Android signup bills through Google.
- Open the Google Play Store app, or go to play.google.com on a computer.
- Open Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select the Criterion Channel subscription.
- Select Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
Uninstalling the app never cancels a Google Play subscription. If the Criterion Channel is missing from the list, the Google account signed in is not the one paying.
Cancel a Criterion Channel subscription sold by Amazon or Roku
The Criterion Channel is available as an add-on channel inside Prime Video and through Roku, and those subscriptions belong to Amazon or Roku.
- Prime Video Channel: go to Manage Your Prime Video Channels in your Amazon account, find the Criterion Channel under your channels, and cancel it there.
- Roku: sign in at my.roku.com/subscriptions, find the Criterion Channel under Active Subscriptions, choose Manage subscription, then turn off auto-renew and confirm.
- Keep the store's own confirmation, since Criterion will have no record of a cancellation it did not process.
A Criterion Channel subscription bought through Prime Video plays inside Prime Video. If the Criterion Channel app has never worked for you, this is the subscription you hold.
What happens next?
- Access normally runs to the end of the term you have already paid for, which on the $99.99 annual plan can be many months away.
- The annual plan is paid up front, so cancelling stops the next renewal rather than returning the unused portion.
- Cancelling does not delete your Criterion Channel account, your saved list or your viewing history. They stay if you come back.
- Downloads in the Criterion Channel app stop playing when the subscription ends, even though the files stay on the device.
- The subscription is separate from anything you buy at criterion.com. A cancellation does not touch disc orders or a shop account.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
There is no cancel option in my Criterion Channel account
That means Criterion is not the biller. The Criterion Channel sells subscriptions through Apple and Google in-app, through Roku, and as a channel inside Prime Video, and criterionchannel.com can only cancel plans Criterion collects the money for. The merchant name on your statement names the company to go to.
I cancelled the annual plan and did not get money back
The annual subscription is priced at $99.99 and paid a year up front. Cancelling an annual plan stops it renewing rather than refunding the remainder, so access continues to the end of the year you bought. Cancelling near the renewal date is what avoids paying for a year you will not use.
I am being charged and I never signed up for a subscription
Check whether the charge is the Channel or the shop. The Criterion Channel is a streaming subscription at criterionchannel.com; criterion.com is Criterion's disc shop, and those are separate charges from separate accounts. A one-off disc order is not something a subscription cancellation stops.
The Criterion Channel is not in my Apple or Google subscriptions list
Either you are signed in with a different Apple ID or Google account than the one that paid, which is the usual cause, or the subscription is a direct Criterion one and belongs on criterionchannel.com instead. Check every account in the household before concluding it has vanished.
I cancelled but the charge keeps coming
Compare the merchant name on the surviving charge against what you cancelled. A direct Criterion subscription, an Apple one, a Google one and a Prime Video channel can all exist under the same name at once, and cancelling one does nothing to the others.
Still not cancelled?Common reasons a subscription will not cancel How to cancel an app subscription
GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
How do I cancel The Criterion Channel?
Sign in at criterionchannel.com in a browser and use the cancellation option in your subscription settings, if Criterion bills you. If Apple, Google, Roku or Amazon bills you, cancel it in that company's account instead.
What does The Criterion Channel cost?
Its App Store listing shows the Criterion Channel Subscription at $10.99 and at $99.99, corresponding to the monthly and annual plans. Its Google Play listing shows in-app purchases from $10.99 to $99.99 per item.
Do I keep watching after I cancel?
Until the end of the term you already paid for, yes. Cancelling stops the next renewal rather than cutting off access immediately, which on the annual plan can leave months of access.
Does cancelling the Channel affect my Criterion disc orders?
No. The Criterion Channel is a streaming subscription and criterion.com is a separate shop. Cancelling the subscription does not touch an order or a shop account.
