In this guide
Before you start.
- Work out whether yours is a website subscription or an In-App Subscription. Hallmark's terms define the second as one bought through its app on a mobile or media-streaming device, naming Roku, Apple and Google Play, or as an add-on through a third-party streaming service such as Amazon Prime Video.
- Note whose deadline applies. Hallmark states that for a website subscription you must cancel prior to the end of your then-current billing period, and that for an In-App Subscription you must disable automatic renewal by the deadline set out by the applicable App Store, which can be earlier.
- Understand what renews. Hallmark states that a subscription automatically renews at the conclusion of the initial subscription period for additional periods of the same duration, at the then-current fee plus tax, unless you cancel prior to renewal. An annual Hallmark+ subscription therefore renews for another year.
- If you are on a free trial or introductory price, cancel before it ends. Hallmark states that at the conclusion of a free trial or introductory pricing period the subscription automatically renews at the full fee, and that to avoid being charged you must cancel before the end of your trial or introductory period.
- If you used a gift card, expect nothing back. Hallmark states that a gift card balance applied to a subscription is not eligible to be refunded or redeemable for cash, except as otherwise provided by applicable law.
- Know that a failed payment is not a cancellation. Hallmark states that if it does not receive payment at renewal, you authorise it to retry the payment method on file, including multiple retries, and to collect from any alternate payment methods it has on file until full payment is received.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel Hallmark+, step by step.
Cancel a subscription started on the Hallmark website
This is the route Hallmark's own Hallmark+ terms describe, and the only one where Hallmark holds the billing relationship directly.
- Log in to your Hallmark account with the email address that holds the membership.
- Navigate to your account dashboard.
- Click the cancel subscription button, which Hallmark's terms describe as the cancel subscription or similar button.
- Complete any confirmation the flow asks for.
- Check that the cancellation is recorded before the end of your current billing period, since Hallmark states that is the deadline for avoiding future charges.
Hallmark states that when you cancel you may continue to use Hallmark+ until the end of the then-current subscription period you have already paid for, after which the subscription expires and access is terminated.
Cancel an In-App Subscription
Hallmark's terms state that for these, your billing relationship is directly with, and subject to the policies of, the third-party platform, streaming service or app store you acquired the app through.
- Identify the store from the merchant name on your card or bank statement.
- If it reads Apple, open Settings on your device, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select Hallmark+ and tap Cancel Subscription.
- If it reads Google, open the Google Play subscriptions list, select Hallmark+ and cancel it.
- If it reads Roku, sign in at my.roku.com, open your subscriptions and turn off auto-renew for Hallmark+.
- If Hallmark+ came as an add-on through Amazon Prime Video, cancel it under Memberships and Subscriptions in your Amazon account.
- Do this by the deadline that store sets, which Hallmark's terms say governs rather than its own.
Hallmark states that an In-App Subscription is cancelled by disabling automatic renewal of your subscription using the procedures established by the applicable App Store, and that to avoid future charges you must disable automatic renewal by the deadline set out by that App Store.
Cancel any other kind of Hallmark+ subscription
Hallmark+ is also sold in forms that fit neither of the routes above, such as bundled or gifted subscriptions.
- Follow the instructions provided in connection with that subscription, which is what Hallmark's terms direct you to for any other Hallmark+ subscription.
- If no instructions came with it, contact Hallmark for help using the contact details in the Hallmark+ terms.
- Ask explicitly for the subscription to be cancelled and for written confirmation of the date.
What happens next?
- Hallmark states that when you cancel, you may continue to use Hallmark+ until the end of the then-current subscription period you have already paid for, after which access is terminated.
- Cancelling stops the automatic renewal rather than refunding the current period.
- Membership perks end with the subscription. Hallmark+ includes rewards benefits alongside streaming, such as coupons and, for annual subscribers, a yearly ornament coupon and a birthday gift coupon, and those stop when the membership does.
- Hallmark states that unredeemed coupons expire on their own terms regardless: the monthly coupon may only be used during the month it is issued and does not roll over.
- Hallmark states that if it discontinues a Hallmark+ subscription itself, its sole obligation is a pro rata refund for the remainder of your then-current, fully paid-up subscription period. That does not apply to a cancellation you make.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
There is no cancel button on my Hallmark account dashboard
That means a store holds the subscription rather than Hallmark. Hallmark's terms are explicit that when you subscribe through its app on a mobile or media-streaming device such as Roku, Apple or Google Play, or as an add-on through a service like Amazon Prime Video, your billing relationship is directly with that platform and the fees are billed as an in-app purchase. Cancel by disabling automatic renewal in that store's subscription settings.
I cancelled and was charged anyway
Check which deadline applied to you. For a website subscription Hallmark states you must cancel prior to the end of your then-current billing period. For an In-App Subscription it states you must disable automatic renewal by the deadline set out by the applicable App Store, which is often 24 hours before the renewal rather than the renewal moment itself. Cancelling on the renewal day frequently falls inside a store's deadline.
My annual membership renewed for another full year
That is how the renewal is written. Hallmark states a subscription automatically renews at the conclusion of the initial subscription period for additional periods of the same duration, at the then-current fee plus tax, unless you cancel prior to renewal. An annual plan renews annually, and Hallmark's terms provide no refund for a cancellation you make after the fact.
I let my card expire to stop the membership
That does not work and Hallmark documents why. If it does not receive payment at renewal, you authorise it, without notice unless the law requires one, to retry the payment method on file including multiple retries, and to collect from any alternate payment methods it has on file until full payment is received. Cancel properly instead.
I paid with a Hallmark+ gift card and want the balance back
Hallmark's terms rule it out: a gift card balance applied to a subscription is not eligible to be refunded or redeemable for cash, except as otherwise provided by applicable law. Cancelling stops future charges but does not convert the applied balance back into money.
Still not cancelled?Common reasons a subscription will not cancel
GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
How do I cancel Hallmark+?
If you subscribed on the website, log in, go to your account dashboard and click the cancel subscription button, before the end of your current billing period. If you subscribed in an app or through a streaming service, disable automatic renewal in that store's subscription settings.
Does Hallmark+ refund the rest of my subscription?
Not for a cancellation you make. Hallmark states you may continue using Hallmark+ until the end of the period you have paid for, after which it expires. A pro rata refund is described only for the case where Hallmark itself discontinues the subscription.
What happens to my Hallmark+ perks when I cancel?
They end with the membership at the close of the paid period. Coupons also expire on their own terms: Hallmark states the monthly coupon may only be used during the month it is issued and does not roll over month to month.
Why is Hallmark+ not in my Hallmark account?
Because an App Store or streaming service bills it. Hallmark's terms state that for an In-App Subscription your billing relationship is directly with that platform, and the subscription is managed in that account rather than on Hallmark's dashboard.
